Tubing Material Selection

Note: Per EIGA Oxygen Pipeline and Piping Systems all common metallics are safe for use in systems with Nitrous. Thus propellant compatibility is not a concern. 3.1ksi ish 1/2” OD piping is what we’re looking at

Workability

Dissimilar metals can be a concern given that fittings are generally steel.

Very difficult to work.

All Materials work for Ethanol and N2o

Brass is more corrosion resistance than aluminum

All can oxidize and have debris

Aluminum oxide is a debris in the system

More susceptible to rust

resistance to corrosion

Thermal Compatibility

-100*F copper

-270*F

(-50* F - 800*F)

Mechanical Properties at Cryogenic Temperatures - Penflex

Pressure Comparability

Copper goes up to 1.5ksi.

Brass goes up to 2.2ksi

TOO LOW

@ 3.3 ksi

Can corrode very easily due to oxidizer.
